Prices for a wedding or event at Fellows Riverside Gardens will be going up by 20 percent for those looking to rent space next year.

The Mill Creek Metro-Parks commissioners approved the increase at Monday’s board meeting. The changes were recommended by Keith Kaiser, horticulture director for the parks.

“It’s been five years since the last rate increase and we thought it was time,” Kaiser said.

The Gazebo and Kidston Pavilion, which are reserved for weddings only, now cost $150 to rent for two hours. That price will go up to $180.

The Rossi Auditorium inside the D.D and Velma Davis Education & Visitor Center costs $675, but will be rising to $810 per reservation, Kaiser said.

Kaiser said he wasn’t worried about a loss of revenue because of the rise in prices. There already is a waiting list for the venues, though those already on the waiting list will be able to reserve at the current prices.

Commissioners were concerned about the rising prices causing a drop in rental requests, but Kaiser dispelled their worries.

“I’m sure there will be people that come and say [prices are too high],” Kaiser said. “But these are very popular venues.”

Also at the board meeting, a change to the catering policy was approved for Fellows Riverside Gardens. Caterers will not be allowed use of the kitchen and set- up areas without paying a fee, either $1,200 per year or a one-time fee whenever they use the facilities.

The board also recognized Sgt. Dustin Hines and Officer Christian Hunter of the Mill Creek police for “lifesaving efforts” to help a woman who fell off a trail on West Newport Drive.
