Police continue to investigate a weekend shooting that ended with two people arrested, including a woman who made headlines for a 2011 altercation with Youngstown police.
Keymonnie Harris, 22, of Blackburn Street, Campbell, is charged with obstructing official business, aggravated robbery and felonious assault.
He was shot twice in the arm and once in the head during an apparent home invasion Saturday and is being treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center, according to reports.
Also facing charges is Doretha L. Weston, 36, of Miller Street, Youngstown, who is charged with complicity to aggravated robbery and carrying concealed weapons.
Weston was convicted this year of obstructing official business and driving under suspension in Youngstown in a 2011 traffic stop in which Weston, the driver, and her passenger said two city police officers assaulted them.
Weston is a co-plaintiff in a civil lawsuit against the city of Youngstown and the two officers, which was filed in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court but moved to federal court.
“Two people were arrested, and it seems like there are other suspects with some involvement,” said Boardman Police Chief Jack Nichols.
The chief added that it’s “strange” to have what appear to be two home-invasion-related shootings within months. A man was shot to death Oct. 30 by the owner of a Lockwood Boulevard home.
Boardman police were called to 61 Terrace Drive about 5:20 p.m. Saturday, and when they arrived, homeowner James Truman told them that a woman who used to reside at the house, and whom police have not publicly identified, came to retrieve furniture and called people to help her, according to reports.
Truman said he was sitting in the living room with his son and their dog when a man wearing a black jacket rushed into the living room holding a revolver and telling them to get up, reports show.
The dog attacked the man, and Truman ran to his bedroom and retrieved a gun, while his son ran out of the house and went to another location where he called police, reports stated.
Truman pleaded guilty to felony drug trafficking in 2011.
It is illegal for convicted felons to own firearms.
Truman said he returned fire after the unidentified man fired at him, and then the man and another person ran out of the house, police said.
Harris, bleeding, was apprehended near Southern Boulevard and Willow Drive and originally gave police a false name, reports stated.
Harris told police that he had called two people to purchase drugs and they picked him up, taking him to Boardman, and handed him a revolver, police said.
When they got to the house, Harris said the two men went inside and after a short time, an older man came out of the house and Harris thought it was time for a transaction.
The older man was carrying a gun so Harris said he pulled out the gun from his waistband and fired, fleeing when the older man began shooting, according to reports.
Harris said he was trying to find a phone when police caught up with him.
Reports state that police found a black face mask in Harris’ coat.
Weston was arrested nearby a short time later at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Maple Drive.
