Canfield swimmers excel at Christmas Invite

Canfield sophomore Connor Brady placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 100 backstroke to lead area swimmers at the annual Christmas Invitational at C.T. Branin Natatorium.

Brady also joined senior Nicholas Montalto and juniors Michael DiDomenico and Daniel Bogen on the fifth-place 200 free relay. Brady, Montalto and Bogen joined senior Mike Cardone on the sixth-place 400 free relay, while Montalto placed fifth in the 50 free.

Ursuline junior John Tomko was sixth in the 200 free and Hubbard senior Joe Spurio was seventh in the 100 fly.

Warren Harding’s 200 medley relay of senior Sam Angelo, junior Zackary Williams, sophomore Dylan Thirion and freshman Michael Miller placed eighth. Those four took seventh in the 200 free relay.

On the girls side, Boardman sophomore Brooke Bailey placed sixth in the 100 breast and seventh in the 100 butterfly.

Bailey also swam on Boardman’s seventh-place 200 medley relay with seniors Gaby DeAscentis and Colleen Manning and sophomore Sarah Gonda. Bailey and Manning and juniors Jordyn Markovitch and Jessica Hilk placed fifth in the 400 free relay.

Manning, Markovitch, Hilk and sophomore Amanda Moss took eighth in the 200 free relay.

Warren Harding sophomore Emily Thirion was third in the 100 fly and third in the 100 breast.

Howland sophomore Aimee Gysegem placed fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 200 free.

Canfield sophomore Sarah Heaven was fifth in the 100 back and joined juniors Mallory Allen and Olivia Williamson and freshman Theresa Mikolay on the eighth-place 200 medley relay.

Youngstown Christian sophomore Jessica Morrow placed fifth in the 100 breast.

The meet, which draws the best teams from across Ohio, is considered a preview of February’s state meet, which is also at C.T. Branin.
