Unlicensed driver gets 6 years in crash death

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) — An unlicensed, uninsured driver has been ordered to spend at least six years in prison for fatally striking a suburban Philadelphia man and leaving him to die.

A Bucks County judge called 24-year-old Charles Horrocks “a maniac behind the wheel” Thursday in ordering him to prison for the February death of 36-year-old Eric Beck.

Authorities say Horrocks already had between six and 14 drinks and was heading to another bar the night he hit Beck with his unregistered car in Bristol Township. Beck died shortly after his mother arrived at the scene after noticing a gathered crowd.

The Bucks County Courier Times reports Horrocks’ license was revoked at the time of the crash for speeding and careless driving. Investigators say he left the scene and continued drinking that night.
