Girls basketball wins

The Poland Middle School girls basketball team knocked off Boardman Center Middle School 38-20 on Dec. 4. The Lady Dogs were led by Alexis Hughes, who had 12 points, six rebounds and two steals. Magie Sebest collected 13 rebounds and added six points. Alea Nicholudis and Bella Gadjos also scored six points a piece as the Bulldogs improved to 2-0 on the season.

Girls team defeats Hubbard

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-0 on the season with a 37-3 win over Hubbard Dec. 5. Bella Gajdos led the Dogs with eight points, five assists and four steals. Emma Moffo chipped in eight points and two steals.

Poland basketball beats LaBrae

The Poland girls basketball team built a 34-16 halftime lead en route to a 58-33 victory over LaBrae Dec. 6. Leading scorers were Aleah Hughes and Rachel Robertson with 14 points each. Robertson hit four three-pointers and added four steals. Hughes had eight rebounds, while Liz Suess and Korinna Sherman also contributed six points each.

It’s winter sports season.

Your young athletes haves started playing, and it promises to be a great season filled with game-winning shots, wrestling tournaments, strikes and spares, balance beam routines and swim meets. Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a winter sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. If you send it, it will get in.

The sports news we’re looking for ranges from varsity high school teams down to middle school and even elementary and recreational leagues. And not just basketball — we want wrestling, bowling, swimming, gymnastics and hockey, too.
