A portion of the Youngstown section of the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio met at the Austintown library to discuss selling safety, what it means to be a Girl Scout, and to encourage parents to become active in their children’s participation in the Girl Scouts.

“This particular troop is an in-school Girl Scout group at Kirkmere Elementary School and we really wanted to meet today to bring them some of the traditions of the Girl Scouts and make them feel like they belong to this great organization,” said Sabbrina Landers, a member services coordinator for the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio.

This is the second time the Girl Scouts have been able to have this type of meeting. After the Scouts ate pizza, Landers and Girl Scout staff member Tiffany Lyden gave safety tips to the girls.

“We really wanted to emphasize safety, because most of these girls will be going door-to-door to sell cookies. We want to make sure they stay safe and have fun,” said Landers.

This section of the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio is made possible through donations from the Youngstown Foundation, the Community Foundation, and the Wayne Foundation.
