Canfield swim teams sweep Kent Roosevelt

The Canfield swim team defeated Kent Roosevelt 119-64 (girls) and 129-50 (boys) at the Dec. 4 meet at Youngstown State University.

The girls team was led by four-event winners Theresa Mikelay (200 medley relay, 200 individual medley, 200 free medley and 100 breaststroke), Sarah Heaven (200 medley relay, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 400 free medley), and Mallory Allen (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 free medley, and 400 free relay).

Following closely behind them were Maggie Beistel (first in the 200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, and 400 free relay and second in the 100 backstroke) and Brianna O’Malley (first in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay, second in the 200 individual medley, and third in the 100 butterfly).

Leslie Davis claimed first-place in the 500 freestyle and 400 free relay events, with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle. Jamie Wellham took first in the 200 free medley, second in the 100 butterfly, and third in the 50 freestyle events.

Ally Chiu placed first in diving, while Carlie Oddo took third. Abby Karlock took third in the 100 freestyle and Erin Loomis took third in the 500 freestyle events.

The boys team was led by four-event victors Daniel Bogen (200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 400 free relay), Nicky Montalto (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 free relay and 400 free relay), and Connor Brady (200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 free relay and 400 free relay).

Michael DiDomenico won the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 100 backstroke and was second in the 500 freestyle. Mike Cardone won the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay and took second in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Drew Bennett took first in the 200 free relay, second in the 50 freestyle, and third in the 100 freestyle, while Alec Gaetano placed first in the 200 medley relay and third in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly.

Adam Weiss took first in the 200 freestyle and second in the 100 butterfly, while Kyle Anderson too first in the 500 freestyle and second in the individual medley. Jared Rothbauer placed third in the 100 backstroke and Michael Dohar took third in the 100 breaststroke.

The 2012-2013 team is captained by seniors Michael Dohar, Leslie Davis, Erin Loomis and Mike Cardone.
