Ex-cop faces mail fraud sentencing
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A former Pittsburgh-area police officer is set for sentencing in federal court on a mail fraud charge stemming from a bogus claim that his motorcycle was stolen.
In reality, 42-year-old Frank Caligiuri Jr. had sold the bike — albeit to federal agents conducting an undercover investigation.
Caligiuri pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud in July.
He was a Kennedy Township police officer when he made the bogus theft report in 2009.
He was scheduled for sentencing today before a federal judge in Pittsburgh.
