Weathersfield School District is expecting to receive an “excellent with distinction” on its state report card based on preliminary information from the Ohio Department of Education.

Superintendent Damon Dohar told the school board this week the ratings have been delayed by the state, but he anticipates release in mid-September.

The state delayed releasing the results Aug. 21 because of a statewide investigation into reports of manipulation of data. Columbus, Toledo and Lockland school districts reportedly altered attendance data.

State Auditor David Yost began a statewide investigation into the ODE’s activities.

Dohar said the district’s three schools will receive “excellent” ratings based on test scores from the Ohio Achievement Assessment exam and the Ohio Graduation Test.

The high school and Seaborn Elementary have had “excellent” ratings the past seven years. The middle school was rated as “effective” for the last two years, but Dohar said information from the state is that the school will be rated “excellent.”

“We are very proud of our teachers and our entire staff,” Dohar said. “Great work has been done.”

In other business, the board accepted the resignations of Richard Brunton, volunteer assistant football coach; Phillip Ciavarella, volunteer assistant football coach; and Julian Navarro, assistant football coach.

Ciavarella was appointed assistant football coach, instead of a volunteer. The board also gave supplemental athletic contracts to William Croft, softball coach; Amber Cross, junior high cross-country coach; and Jeremy Meyers, assistant varsity cross-country coach.
