v Back-to-school benefit concert, 8 p.m.: Western Reserve Community Church, 8590 Hitchcock Road, Boardman, hosts the event with guests including Allison Thomas, and Whitney and Blake Matthews. Entrance fee for those 12 and older is $1. Proceeds will go to the school most represented by students, parents and faculty.

v Canfield Fair, 8 a.m.: Food, fun, music, animals and more await at the Canfield Fairgrounds. The end-of-summer tradition continues through Labor Day.

v Comedian Kelly Taylor, 7 p.m.: The Canadian Comedian of the Year brings his gig to Penn State Shenango’s campus auditorium. Doors open at 6:30. Best of all, the show is free.

v Elvis, featuring Tim E., 6 p.m.: The outdoor music event takes place at Warren Community Amphitheater, 303 Mahoning Ave., Warren.

v Crossroads, 7 to 11 p.m.: Kick back after the work week and relax for the Labor Day weekend at Kuzman’s, 1025 S. State St., Girard.

Concert series

Warren Civic Music’s concert series for the 2012-13 season will open Sept. 12 featuring the Motown sounds of Cornell Gunter’s Coasters, The Marvelettes and Larry Marshak’s tribute to the Platters.

Season tickets and individual tickets are available. Season tickets for all six concerts are $80. Single concert tickets are $35 each. Concerts start at 7:30 p.m. in Packard Music Hall.

Other concerts are Oct. 16, Greg Bonham, direct from Las Vegas; Nov. 14, UK’s Jive Aces with Toni Elizabeth Prima; Dec. 11, Nashville’s Mandy Barnett; March 7, 2013, Hooray for Hollywood; and April 16, 2013, SIX, Branson’s No. 1 show.

‘Odd Couple’ to open season

The Victorian Players will open the 2012-13 season with the Neil Simon Classic “The Odd Couple” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7. A wine and cheese reception is planned before the first performance.

Shows will be weekends through Sept. 23. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.

The play features Len Rome and Jim Loby of WYTV as Felix and Oscar.

Reception at Hoyt

A public reception is set from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 7 for artists of “Three New Visions” at Hoyt Center for the Arts, 124 E. Leasure Ave. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

The contemporary artists from the Mid-Atlantic region are Virginia Bradley, Judith Peck and Joseph Martin, whose works will be shown through Oct. 5.
