Poland Relay for Life begins efforts for 2013

A few years ago, the Poland Relay for Life started with a small group of teams and a great amount of determination. At the July 6-7 relay event, the Poland Relay for Life had more than 30 registered teams and raised more than $68,000.

This achievement was realized due to the support of citizens, neighbors and local relay families. The relay was formed in memory of loved ones who have fought and lost their battles with cancer, to show support of loved ones who are still fighting this disease, and in the hopes of raising funds to find cures before the next generation has to face a cancer battle.

The 2013 relay season starts today. On Sept. 7-8, there will be a multi-family yard sale at 23 Island Dr. in Poland, open from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. both days. This sale will offer housewares, baby items, books, clothing, bake sale and other miscellaneous pieces, with all proceeds donated to the Poland Relay for Life.

On Sept. 22, there will be a Craft Show and Car Show at the Negley Volunteer Fire Department, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m., with all profits from the refreshments to be donated to the Poland Relay for Life.

Anyone interested in joining the Poland Relay for Life and/or forming a new team can attend the first meeting of the new season on Sept. 13 at the Memorial Baptist Church of Poland, 56 Water St., Poland, from 7–8 p.m.
