Poland JV football wins opener
The Poland junior varsity football team beat Marlington 26-6 last Saturday thanks to a strong rushing attack.
The offensive ground game was controlled by running backs Marlon Ramirez and Austin Wilson, who each had a rushing touchdown. The passing game was strong with quarterback Dom Petrony hooking up with receiver Art Duran on several gainers, including a TD pass.
Geno Petrus led the defense with a fumble recovery and an interception returned for a score. Defensive end Joe Caudle and linebacker Adam Wollet were both recognized by the coaching staff for an outstanding effort.
Poland frosh roll to 47-22 victory
The Bulldogs freshman football team rolled up 47 points en route to a big 47-22 victory over Marlington.
Anthony Audi and Dylan Garver each scored three touchdowns, including Garver’s 78-yarder. Gino Centofanti added a TD reception from quarterback Nick Buccieri.
Adding to the total yardage for the day were Buccieri and running back Austin Connley, behind a very strong performance by the offensive line, including Trey Ellis, Joe Bonarigo and Justin Madick.
Key players won POland’s defense were Jacob Fredrick and Jacob Wardle, both with fumble recoveries, and Austin Connelly and Gino Centofanti, both with interceptions.
Seventh-grade team beats Marlington
Poland’s seventh-grade football team beat Marlington 22-0 on Aug. 22. Dante Romano rushed for two touchdowns, including a 66-yarder. Alex Catsules also scored a touchdown.
Kincaid Mrakovich and Michael Diaz each scored on two-point conversions.
Poland eighth-graders fall 22-8
The Poland eighth-grade grid team lost 22-8 to Marlington 22-8. The offense moved the ball but struggled to score.
Reid Gould had the lone touchdown for the Bulldogs and running backs Joey Lawman and Nick Petrolla turned in strong performances.
Standing out on defense were end Daniel Klase, linebacker Padraig O’Shaughnesy and defensive back Kyle Rorty.
