Crime Watch plans dinner sales

YOUNGSTOWN

East Side Crime Watch, 1001 Oak St. (corner of Oak and Fruit streets), will serve dinners today beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Fish dinners are $6.50 and chicken wings are $6. Meals include cabbage, potato salad and dessert. Pop will be an additional 60 cents.

Special day for dogs planned at Mosquito

CORTLAND

AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Dog Park at Mosquito Lake Park, sponsored by AKC, Shelter Puppies and Elite K-9 Training.

Events include Canine Good Citizen testing from 11 a.m. to noon, pet photographer from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a basket auction, obedience games, microchipping, K9 search and rescue demonstration, disaster preparedness for your dog, rescue organizations with dogs and puppies, people food, and Fun Dog Show to benefit Wags for Kids, a nonprofit that trains and places mobility service and skilled companion animals for children with disabilities. All other proceeds will benefit Shelter Puppies.

Rally day scheduled at Lutheran Church

POLAND

Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2985 Center Road, invites the community to Rally Day Sept. 9.

A potluck picnic will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the church pavilion. Hot dogs, tableware and beverages will be provided. Crafts, games and make-your-own ice cream sundaes also will be part of the day. Worship is at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Julianne Smith. For information call 330-757-3272.

Cortland author plans book-signing event

Judy Lennington, a Cortland author and native of Rogers, has scheduled a book-signing event for today at First Place Bank in Cortland, 325 S. High St,

She plans to be there most of the day, with a break for lunch.

Her novels are “Saving Diana,” a Civil War-era coming of age tale; and “Daniel’s Day,” about a man whose father was the victim of a mob hit in the 1940s. Her third novel, “Snow,” will come out in October.
