Middle school cross country competes at Salem

The Canfield Village Middle School boys and girls cross country teams competed at Salem, along with eight other schools. The boys finished sixth among the nine teams. A total of 87 runners competed with Canfield’s runners, who scored as follows: Victor Stefanides (sixth), Tyler Napolitano (21st), Nick O’Hara (23rd), Alexander Plant (39th), Ben Walker (40th), Jordan Audia (47th) and Kyle Huston (48th).

The girls team finished first among eight teams. A total of 89 runners toed the line with Canfield runners scoring as follows: Raquel Markulin (second), Anita Mancini (third), Emerson Fletcher (10th), Clarise Rostek (11th), Marissa Cashbaugh (15th), Cara DeChurch (16th) and Zoe Cavoulis (36th). Other runners finishing for Canfield were Sara Green, Angana Osborne, Becky Armstrong and Giavanna Sammarone.

JV cross country runs at invitational

The high school junior varsity cross country teams competed in the Salem Early Bird Invitational last week. The boys team finished eighth out of 12 teams. Canfield’s top seven included Mack Mettille (37th), Kyle Anderson (53rd), Tyler Tareshawty (54th), Tom Donadee (56th), Mike Solomon (57th), Matt Coalmer (59th) and Slava Lafoer (60th). Also finishing for Canfield were John Stedge, Gary Zammary, Alex Nischwitz, Sam Rantilla, Dan Sylak, Andrew Bell, Richie Abel, Ben Vitek and Bobby Hudok.

The girls team finished seventh out of 11 teams. A total of 128 runners competed with the Cards top seven runners being Jenny McClune (18th), Victoria Bosze (42nd), Amy Goddard (49th), Angelina Sorice (51st), Libby Urig (55th), Emily Burton (56th) and Sarah Wyand (57th). Also finishing for Canfield were Brittany Bettile, Rachel Wyand, Leah Vitek, Pragi Patel, Maddy Urig, Svetlana Lefoer and Isabelle Moyer.

Senior women’s bowling league

A senior ladies bowling league will be meeting at Amron Laes in Canfield. The league meets every Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. Teams of four are welcomed, but singles can easily be placed on a team. For more information, contact Norma or Jimmy at Amron Lanes at 330-533-3339.

Youngstown Orthopaedic Saturday sports clinic

Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates’ Saturday sports clinics, geared specifically to fall sports student-athletes in need of immediate attention to sports injuries, has started. The clinics run from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday throughout the high school sports season.

These clinics are open to players involved in football, volleyball, soccer, golf and other high school and college sports. They are held at the practice’s Building A at the northwest corner of Tippecanoe Road and Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield. More information is available at www.youngstownortho.com.

Canfield accepting nominations for Hall of Fame

Canfield High School is taking nominations for the next class of the school’s athletic Hall of Fame. Nominations are being solicited from the public for former boy and girl CHS athletes from the class of 2002 and earlier who distinguished themselves at Canfield and/or afterward as well. Deserving contributors/supporters from the coaching ranks or community at-large are eligible, too.
