Penn National: 1,500 video slots coming to Austintown facility in 2014

YOUNGSTOWN — Penn National Gaming Inc.’s Austintown facility will have 1,500 video slot machines when it opens during the first half of 2014, according to a top company official.

The facility — to be called Hollywood Slots at Mahoning Valley Race Course — will create about 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, and 1,000 construction jobs, said Timothy J. Wilmott, Penn National’s chief operating officer.

The opening date depends on the weather during the 2012-2013 winter season, he said. A mild winter will allow more exterior work to be done, and would allow the racetrack with slot machines to open earlier in 2014, he said.

Wilmott was the keynote speaker at today’s Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber’s Salute to Business breakfast today at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman.
