Oreo the goat living outlaw’s life in Tennessee

EAST RIDGE, Tenn.

Not wanting to be the people who got Jeff Vlar’s goat, city council members in a Tennessee city will consider an exemption for the animal.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports the issue is whether a black and white pygmy goat named Oreo can remain in East Ridge as Vlar’s pet.

City Manager Tim Gobble says there’s no question Oreo is cute. But he also says the city must either enforce its “no livestock” ordinance or find an alternative.

Jeff and Samantha Vlar say they didn’t know keeping Oreo was against the law when they got him for their children a year ago.

Mayor Brent Lambert is sympathetic. He has kids, too — the human kind — and says the city is willing to look at a narrow exception for Oreo.

Pa. man held in fight over chicken baked not fried

POINT MARION, Pa.

A southwestern Pennsylvania man has been jailed on charges he fought with his son and daughter-in-law after he was served chicken that was baked, when he wanted it fried.

State police have charged 45-year-old George Rhome, of Point Marion, with simple assault and harassment charges because they say the argument became physical about 10:15 p.m. Sunday.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Rhome. He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges today and remained in the Fayette County Prison on Wednesday unable to post $20,000 bond.

Police say they also arrested the victims on unspecified bench warrants out of Greene County. Police haven’t released their names or the charges they face.

Point Marion is about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh.
