Event will offer fun for the family

BOARDMAN

Boardman Park’s Lariccia Family Community Center will be the setting for Armstrong Antlers and Anglers, a family-friendly celebration of the great outdoors, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 15.

Admission is a requested donation of nonperishable food items. In line with Breaking Bread, Armstrong’s ongoing effort to support local food banks and programs, all proceeds from this event will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

This event will feature a 2,500-gallon portable pond stocked with fish. Children and adults may fish for free, with professional fishermen on hand to bait hooks and teach technique. Bait and poles will be provided.

In addition, outdoor enthusiasts will experience hands-on activities including archery, simulated duck hunting, live snakes, live birds of prey, a petting zoo, wagon rides, animal mounts, watercraft and guided nature walks.

A marketplace will feature vendors displaying and selling items, including hunting and fishing equipment and food. Concessions also will be available.

Festivities will include appearances from Outdoor Channel’s Neal Rohrbach, host of “Ultimate Outdoors,” and Brian “Gunny” Zins of the History Channel’s hit program, “Top Shot.” Demonstrations are being planned in fishing, gun safety and wild game cooking.
