Youngsotwn man charged with fleeing from Warren police

WARREN — A Youngstown man faces multiple charges today for allegedly fleeing from Warren police Tuesday afternoon in a stolen car and then on foot into the Mahoning River, where he was captured.

Patrolman David Weber, watching for traffic offenders on West Market Street, observed Keylin D. Shaw, 26, of Camden Avenue, covering his face as he passed the cruiser at 2:40 p.m., Weber said in a police report.

Weber attempted to stop the vehicle for excessive speed, but Shaw took off, reaching a speed of 90 miles per hour on Highland Avenue Southwest before failing to negotiate a turn at Main and Dover Avenues, hitting a stopped pickup truck head-on.

Weber’s cruiser also struck the back of Shaw’s vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Avenger. Shaw fled on foot, followed by Weber, into an open gate at the pump house across the street from the blast furnace at RG Steel.
