Woman shot dead outside Pa. housing complex

NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a woman whose body was found outside a Pittsburgh-area housing complex died of a gunshot wound to the head.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office says 24-year-old Susan Hammond was pronounced dead shortly before 8 a.m. Monday.

Her body had been found less than a half-hour earlier at the complex in North Versailles.

Police said they believe Hammond was killed Sunday night. They said some residents reported hearing what might have been gunshots.
