Ohio man gets prison in drive-by shooting

COLUMBUS (AP) — A 20-year-old Ohio man has been sentenced to serve at least 23 years in prison after admitting he was the gunman in a fatal drive-by shooting.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Alex Ferguson pleaded guilty Monday to one count of aggravated murder. Prosecutors say Ferguson fatally shot 18-year-old Tyrone Malcolm in January 2010 on the east side of Columbus.

Authorities say it was gang-related.

Ferguson was 17 when he shot Malcolm, but a juvenile court judge transferred the teen’s case to adult court. He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 23 years.

The car’s driver pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to eight years in prison. Another man in the car faces trial on a charge of aggravated murder.
