Jurors begin deliberations in Columbus Jones Jr. murder trial


YOUNGSTOWN — After more than a weeks' worth of testimony, the case against Columbus Jones Jr., accused of killing one man and injuring 11 others at an off-campus party near Youngstown State University in February 2011, is in the hands of a jury.

The five-man, seven-woman jury began deliberations today against Jones, 23, who is charged with murder of YSU student Jamail Johnson and 11 counts of felonious assault, all with firearm specifications.

Atty. Lou DeFabio, representing Jones, and Rebecca Doherty, an assistant county prosecutor gave their closing statements to jurors.

Jones faces a long prison term if convicted on all charges.
