YOUNGSTOWN

City police are investigating several weekend shootings, including those into three occupied houses — much like the East Side shooting that resulted in the murder of an 8-year-old boy last week.

According to police reports, a 34-year-old South Side woman was inside her Potomac Avenue home with five juveniles as young as 7 in the early morning Saturday when bullets ripped through the home.

The woman said she heard the shots fired and glass breaking and made all the children and herself lie on the floor until the gunfire stopped. Police discovered seven bullet holes in various places at the front of the house.

No one was injured in the shooting. The woman told police she is not having problems with anyone and does not know who would want to shoot into her house.

A 40-year-old South Side woman told police she and an adult relative were sleeping in her Cornell Avenue home early Monday when they heard the sound of gunfire and glass breaking in the house. The woman discovered several bullet holes in the house, broken windows and shattered dishes. There was also an SUV in the driveway left riddled with bullets.

Police discovered a neighboring house occupied by a 59-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman had also been hit with multiple bullets.

No one was hurt in the Cornell Avenue shooting. Police collected shell casings from the roadway outside of the houses.

Bryce Linebaugh was killed Aug. 20 when someone stood outside his East Side home and fired shots from an assault rifle into the building where he slept. Shawn R. Wilson, 21, has been charged with aggravated murder in the shooting.

Police are also investigating the shooting of a 21-year-old man who has refused to assist police in the capture of those responsible for shooting him.

The man told police he was walking in the area of Delason Avenue and Erie Street just after midnight Monday morning when he was approached by another man and an argument broke out.

He said he attempted to punch the man in the face, but the man pulled out a gun and tried to run away.

The victim said he heard several shots as he ran away and realized he had been injured, then was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police asked the man if he knew his shooters identity to which he made it clear police would not be getting his assistance.

“I ain’t no snitch! I didn’t call you! You are just wasting your time. I didn’t even want to come, but my mom brought me anyway,” he said.
