Milton D. Cox, director emeritus of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning, Teaching, and University Assessment at Miami University in Ohio, presents “Building a Culture for Assessment: The Impact of Faculty and Professional Learning” 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 in the James Gallery of Kilcawley Center.

The presentation, which is open to the public, explores the gaps in higher education that have resisted closure since the 1920s: gaps between department silos, gaps rendering curricula nonintegrative, and gaps between “new” and traditional teaching approaches that assessment evidence shows no longer produces optimum learning for our students. The presentation, sponsored by the YSU Office of the Provost, the offices of Assessment and General Education, and the Faculty development program, will explore how faculty and professional learning communities have generated ways to begin to close these gaps and build programs based on assessment, learning, and community.
