Austintown standoff ends without injury

AUSTINTOWN — A man is undergoing a hospital evaluation after a three-hour-long standoff at a township apartment complex.

Police Capt. Bryan Kloss said the man, whose name or age haven’t been released, threatened to kill himself inside his apartment on Kerrybrook Avenue, off South Raccoon Road.

“Basically, the guy was having some issues and threatened to commit suicide,” Kloss said.

The captain said police and the SWAT team were called to the apartment complex just after 9 a.m. today, and the man came out on his own around noon.

Police confiscated a large number of firearms from the apartment, Kloss said. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he will undergo an evaluation.

No one was injured, and he was alone in the apartment, according to police.
