Toths to open gardens to public for 16th year

Rodney and Kay Toth, 5637 W. Liberty St., will open their gardens to visitors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 2.

Several major gardens in this 16th annual event will showcase dahlias, different and unusual varieties of tomatoes (in the Giant Tomato Forest), peppers, hostas, coleus, annuals and perennials.

The Great Gourd Tunnel is a 40-foot-long gourd arbor.

There also is the Grandchildren’s Garden, which consists of eight triangular sections, one for each of the Toths’ grandchildren, with such plants as Aunt Molly’s Ground Cherry, Asian Beans, Voo Doo Lily, Megaton Cabbage, Amy Canary Cantaloupe and much more.

Also featured are the Florida Corner, the Super Sky High Sunflower Garden and the Potpourri Pole with Dutchman’s Pipe and Blue Sky Vine.

Monica Toth Baker will entertain with singing at 1:30 p.m., and Joe Weinel will lead karaoke at 3:30 p.m.

John Schinker from the Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will have mums, and Alice Lang will display decorative gourd art.

Ample parking is available, and there is no admission fee.
