Quaker Steak hosts Patriot’s Day event

Quaker Steak & Lube will host its 6th Annual Patriot’s Day Bike Nite on Sept. 6. The event pays tribute to both past and present armed forces.
Among those being honored will be veterans from World War II, Pearl Harbor, Korea and Vietnam. Two prisoners of wars, three veterans with Purple Hearts and veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq will be recognized.
Two local families, who lost their sons in combat, as well as two others who have family members in service will attend.
Nominations sought for 25 Under 35

Nomination forms for the 25 Under 35 Awards are still available. The 25 honorees and top three are chosen by a committee, formed by the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, based upon professional and service categories.
The deadline for nominations for the award, which honors the Mahoning Valley’s best and brightest young professionals, is Friday. Applications are available at www.mvypclub.com/25-under-35 or www.cfmv.org.
Farm Science Review

The Ohio State University Extension-Mahoning County in Canfield is selling tickets to the Farm Science Review in London, Ohio.
The review showcases the future of agriculture. Tickets purchased through the extension office are $5 as opposed to $8 at the gate.
The hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 18-19 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20. Details about the review are online at www.fsr.osu.edu/.

Program targets shale certification

Zane State College in Zanesville and Retrain America are working with Youngstown State University to offer the Shale Exploration Certification to area residents.
The program prepares applicants for a range of positions in the oil and gas industry, and assists participants with career placement.
This opportunity is offered to qualified applicants free and is funded through the Department of Labor’s Energize Appalachian Ohio grant awarded to Zane State College.
