Mill Creek Park’s first British soccer camp ran July 30-Aug. 3 at the Wick Park Recreational Area.

The camp was organized by Challenger Sports and there were 24 participants, all between 3 and 16 years old. The coaches were college students who focus on sports in their studies and hope to one day be soccer coaches. They are all multi-talented at sports and, in addition to their skills in soccer, also play golf, tennis, volleyball, Gaelic football, and more. Coaches were Ben Davies, a 19-year-old from Wales, and Dave McTeggart, a 20-year-old from Ireland.

Participants in the camp were instructed on passing, shooting, freestyle skills, and scrimmages. Though the camp was hard work, the coaches made sure the experience was fun for all.

Samantha Toth, of Austintown, enjoyed the experience to improve her soccer skills. Her family sponsored the coaches for the week in their home and said the visit was a fun experience for all to learn about new backgrounds and cultures.

In addition to Mill Creek Park, Davies and McTeggart’s stay in the U.S. included camps in Kentucky, Columbus, Akron, and ending in Providence, R.I.
