Kasich, DeWine, host police event

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says while the state is sometimes criticized for having too many overlapping police departments, he sees the number of agencies as an asset.

DeWine says the state has tremendous officers and agencies that are a strength for Ohio.

DeWine opened a statewide law enforcement summit today in Columbus by saying the more groups work together, the better they can share ideas and information and make things happen.

Crimes against children, prescription painkiller abuse, human trafficking and slot machine-type gambling games were among the topics on the summit’s agenda.

DeWine cites the coordinated efforts by numerous police departments to crack down on illegal prescription painkiller sales as an example of the benefits of cooperation.
