The Hispanic community in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio recently celebrated its 11th annual picnic at Pearson Park in New Castle. More than 60 people attended this reunion, which is organized every year by the Rev. Hope Cummins of Iglesia Latina Emmanuel and Wayside Emmanuel Church; and Paulina Montaldo, a Spanish professor at Youngstown State University. People from Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Cosa Rica, El Salvador and Mexico, along with Americans who like to practice their Spanish and learn about other cultures, attended the picnic. Paz Costello from the Crisis Shelter of New Castle and Meagan Niebler from Circulo de Amigas (Circle of Friends) of the YWCA of Pittsburgh gave information about services in Spanish available to the community in the area.
