After a 2011 record of 12-6-0 and having lost 10 of their starters to graduation, the Poland girls soccer team will have a lot of rebuilding to do in 2012.

Returning letter-winners Marissa Trevis, Meredith Testa, Abby Begezda, Anna Barnhart, Jessica Rutana, Rachael Robertson Carolyn Balzano and Montana Gessler will lead the charge.

New to the team this year are Dani Rutana, Shannon Miller, Claire Testa, Emily Marsico, Phoebe Bush, Krista Brooker, Carli Sebest, Sumer Kassim, Victoria Harger and Madison Evans. “Canfield and Howland are always strong and now having Austintown in our league for the second year makes it even tougher. When we play these league games, you can throw out the records because they always seem to be battles,” said girls soccer coach John Cavalier.

Even with that kind of competition, Cavalier is optimistic and believes wholeheartedly in his team.

“Our goal this year is to take one game at a time. We lost 10 starters to graduation last year. The majority of this year’s team did not see a lot of action last year, but we have a lot of good athletes that play with a lot of heart. Our senior class has great leaders who want to win.” Cavalier said.
