Boardman girls soccer defeated by Fitch

The Boardman girls soccer team was defeated by Austintown 4-2 at Boardman on Aug. 18. Alison Green scored for the Spartans. Goalie Peyton Bryant saved 10 out of 14 shots. The junior varsity team was beaten by Austintown, 3-0.

Boardman 100-pounders fall in opener

The 100-pound Boardman Little Spartans began the 2012 season with a 22-0 loss to the the Austintown Colts last Sunday. The squad was led by the running attack of Blaine Strines and Logan Cormell. Defensive standouts in the game were Anthony Cannacci and J.T. Russo, who recovered a fumble.

The Little Spartans JV team played in a fifth quarter with Justin Atwood scoring on an 80-yard rush.

Little Spartans start season with loss

The 120-pounders began with a 16-6 loss to the Colts. Boardman opened the scoring when Aiden Slocum rushed 65 yards on the first play of the game. Austintown scored to grab an 8-6 advantage at halftime and added another score. Defensively, the Spartans were lead by Chandler Klinker and Zander Schobel.

Boardman heavyweights earn shutout victory

The Boardman 140-pound team started the campaign with an 8-0 victory. The game-winning score happened with 33 seconds remaining in the contest when Che’ Trevena scored on an 18-yard TD run. Kareem Hamden scored the conversion to seal the win.

The Little Spartans moved the football behind the blocking of Dakota Kirksey, Jackson Straight and Deven Lowry.

Boardman will host their crosstown rival, Austintown Little Falcons, tomorrow.
