Boardman Shepherd of the Valley resident Dorothy Pfau, who is 91 years old, thought she would never get the chance to go fishing on the lake again.

But her dream was recently made a reality by “Second Wind Dreams,” an organization that grants wishes to senior citizens living in elderly-care facilities.

“It was really nice because she didn’t think that she would ever be able to go fishing again. Her and her husband always went fishing and she thought that this was something that she could do with her kids,” said Activities Director Kim Osborn.

The West Branch Marina provided a free boat ride to Dorothy and her family and the Springfield Grille in Poland made her a special perch lunch, which is a fish she often enjoyed with her late husband.

“This dream is a great example of everyone coming together. The community and the entire staff got involved and that’s really the purpose of the program. Once you make one dream come true, you see how powerful it is and the long -erm effects it has,” said Second Wind Dream Coordinator Rayna Rasmussen.

Pfau wasn’t the only person who enjoyed the fresh air and serenity of the water. Her daughter, Dottie, of Canfield, was also ecstatic to spend some quality time with her mother on the lake.

“It was so nice. We had a wonderful time. We took a ride on the lake while my mother and my brother fished. I’m sure my mother loved the fresh air and I think she was very happy to have her family there. It was such a nice gesture from the Shepherd of the Valley. It was so nice of them to make her feel so special. She really likes that personal attention. It was a great experience,” said Dottie.
