Austintown Little Falcons begin season

Two of the three Austintown Little Falcons football teams began the 2012 season with victories over the Hickory Little Hornets last Sunday at Fitch Falcon Stadium.

The 120-pounders pitched a shutout, earning a 28-0 win. The 140-pound squad put on an offensive clinic, piling up 48 points during a 48-8 triumph over the Hornets. The ALF 100-pound team started the season with a tough 12-6 loss in double overtime.

The Falcons will travel to Boardman tomorrow to take on the Little Spartans, starting at noon.

Fitch girls soccer ties North Canton

The Austintown girls soccer team tied North Canton 0-0 Aug. 20. Fitch had four shots on goal. Goalkeeper Jessica Scott saved one North Canton shot on goal. The junior varsity team beat North Canton, 2-0.

Fitch girls soccer defeats Boardman

The Austintown Fitch girls soccer team defeated Boardman 4-2 at Boardman on Aug. 18. Scoring goals for Fitch were Meghan Shonce, Kimmy Muccio, Madison Hefner and Krista Martin. Lauren Bower and Jayme Ritchie had assits. Goalie Jessica Scott saved four out of six shots. The junior varsity team beat Boardman 3-0.

Fitch boys golf dominates Beaver Local

The boys golf team beat Beaver Local 147-166 at Beaver Creek Meadows. Leading the team was Matt Matasly with his score of 33. Vince Goleno had a 36, Adam Catauro and Joey Shushok each carded a 39.

Austintown boys golf falls to Howland

The Fitch boys golf team was defeated by Howland, 163-172 at the Old Avalon on Aug. 16. Leading Austintown were Joey Shushock with a score of 41, Adam Catauro (43), Vince Goleno (43), Matt Matasy (45) and Dom Ignazio (45).

1962 Fitch football reunion is Sept. 7-8

A reunion celebrating the 1962 Austintown Fitch Steel Valley Conference Championship Football Team will occur on Sept. 7-8. Youngstown Orthopaedic Saturday sports clinic

Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates’ Saturday sports clinics, geared specifically to fall sports student-athletes in need of immediate attention to sports injuries, will kick off its 2012 season today. The clinics run from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday throughout the high school sports season.

These clinics are open to players involved in football, volleyball, soccer, golf and other high school and college sports. They are held at the practice’s Building A at the northwest corner of Tippecanoe Road and Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield. More information is available at www.youngstownortho.com.
