Session to provide information on shale training

Staff report

BOARDMAN

There will be an information session about a shale-training program at Youngstown State University Metro College at Southwoods, 100 DeBartolo Place, at 11 a.m. today.

Zane State College, in Zanesville, and Retrain America are working with YSU to offer the Shale Exploration Certification program for a second time.

It is designed to prepare applicants for a number of positions in the oil-and-gas industry and includes career-placement assistance.

Candidates should be capable of working long hours, willing to travel throughout the region and pass a drug test. Ideal candidates would have experience working tough, physical labor and knowledge in mechanics, electronics, heavy-equipment operations, engineering or a wide variety of skills. They also are seeking people with commercial driver’s licenses or military experience.

There is no cost for those accepted into the training. It is funded through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Energize Appalachian Ohio grant awarded to Zane State. There are only 15 spots available, which are expected to be filled at the information session.

At the session, program officials will screen applicants for eligibility and suitability and provide further information about the program and careers.

Those attending are asked to bring their driver’s license, birth certificate, Social Security card, pay stub if employed and DD-214 form if a veteran. For information, call Retrain America at 1-570-651-9645.
