POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

Aug. 21

Theft: A man fled in a silver four-door Chrysler Sebring after reportedly stealing $130 worth of merchandise from Rite Aid Pharmacy, 713 N. State St.

Forgery: An employee with a North State Street construction company discovered his signature had been forged on a check later cashed for $7,742.

Drugs: A Lawrence Avenue woman reported having found in a drawer a small bag of suspected marijuana that police said one of her sons admitted having and discarding. No charges had been filed at the time of the report, however.

Arrest: Authorities, along with the U.S. Marshals Task Force, served a warrant at a Taylor Avenue residence before officers charged Bobbie J. Poe, 323 Taylor, Girard, with obstructing official business, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Poe used profanity toward police, then refused to desist and cooperate, they said.

Aug. 22

Burglary: To a residence in the 400 block of Indiana Avenue, though police found no signs of forced entry. Missing were various pieces of jewelry and a laptop computer.

LIBERTY

Aug. 15

Theft: Police responding to a shoplifting report at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, arrested 42-year-old Brian Mennell, 34 New York Ave., Youngstown, on a felony warrant from Mahoning County charging him with receiving stolen property. Charges related to the theft at Walmart were pending against Mennell and a Youngstown woman.

Theft: A Boise, Idaho, couple at a Belmont Avenue restaurant reported a dog, a laptop computer, a digital camera and other items stolen from their car, for a loss of about $2,577.

Assault: While responding to a fight in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive, officers charged Kiawaun A. Ferrell, 20, of 1060 Patricia Drive, Girard, with assault and criminal damaging after said they saw Ferrell toss a lawn chair at a woman. The chair missed her but struck the side of a building and broke, a report said.

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 3000 block of Logan Way resulted in the arrest of 34-year-old Elmarco D. Jackson, 3624 Hudson Ave., Youngstown, on charges of drug abuse and driving under suspension. A police dog led to the discovery of 28.9 grams of suspected marijuana in the car, a report showed.

Theft: Police received a complaint about someone in a vehicle without permission in the 1900 block of Oriel-Rogers Road before the owner reported $100 missing from her pocketbook.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 3000 block of Northgate Road did an estimated $500 in damage by unknown means to an apartment door.

Burglary: To a second-floor apartment in the 4000 block of Monticello Boulevard after the front door had been kicked in. Nothing appeared to be missing, though.

Breaking and entering: Someone took two portable generators from a garage in the 1300 block of West Liberty Street.

Aug. 16

Assault: Kejuana L. Clay, 18, of 37 Zents Ave., and Ashley J. Valentin, 24, of 112 Illinois Ave., faced assault charges after officers responded to a fight at Walmart. A surveillance camera caught the two Youngstown women attacking two other women without provocation, then pinning one of the victims against a car and repeatedly striking her head and face, resulting in four teeth being knocked loose, police said.

Vandalism: A housekeeping employee with a Motor Inn Drive motel discovered heavy damage to a room after a man and a woman had checked out. Several mirrors were smashed and blood was splattered in several locations, a report said.

Warrant: Authorities were looking for a 28-year-old township man they say fled on a bicycle as they attempted to stop him for having run a stop sign. The man was wanted on a warrant from the Trumbull County 911 center.

Aug. 17

Arrest: Officers stopped a vehicle near the Liberty Plaza on Belmont Avenue, where they took 39-year-old Jennifer F. Fearer into custody. Fearer, of 597 Stull Ave., Girard, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Arrest: Police on Hadley Avenue picked up 32-year-old James R. Larosa, 3198 Hadley, Liberty. He was wanted on a warrant from Girard Municipal Court.

Criminal damaging: Someone spray-painted a racial epithet and obscenities on two vehicles in the 1500 block of Edwards Street.

Criminal damaging: Two trailers and a building in the 1600 block of Lincoln Avenue were spray-painted with graffiti.

Aug. 18

Recovered property: Police found a 2006 Chevrolet vehicle at a Motor Inn Drive motel after an Austintown resident reported the car had been used without permission.

Child endangerment: The driver of a gray vehicle with no front license plate that police tried to pull over near Hadley Avenue led them on a pursuit into Hubbard before authorities called off the chase. Children were in the car, a report showed.

Drugs: Police confronted 31-year-old Dominique D. Jackson, 1115 Woodside St., Youngstown, in her vehicle at Walmart after saying a surveillance camera showed her preparing narcotics in the car. Jackson was charged with drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia when, officers said, they saw her holding a grinding device with suspected marijuana.

Threats: An employee with a Belmont Avenue bank told police a caller made a warning she believed was an indication of a possible robbery. Authorities also contacted other township banks and advised them to be vigilant regarding suspicious activity.

Aug. 19

Theft: A $100 global-positioning-system unit was removed from a vehicle in the 900 block of Keefer Road.

Theft: A $200 GPS device was stolen from a car that had been ransacked in the 1200 block of Keefer Road.

Theft: A $300 GPS unit was missing from a vehicle in the 1100 block of Leslie Lane.

Aug. 20

Theft: A man reported his $200 iPhone missing while at a Belmont Avenue gas station.

Harassment: A Sampson Drive girl said she received five hostile text messages.

Aug. 21

Identity theft: A Euclid Boulevard man accused a family member of using their automated-teller-machine card to make three unauthorized withdrawals totaling $900, possibly to buy a plane ticket to Las Vegas.

Theft: A Catherine Street man reported the theft of his wallet while conducting a garage sale.
