Ohio investigators probe child's beating

CINCINNATI (AP) — Ohio child welfare investigators are trying to figure out if someone made a mistake by allowing a 2-year-old child to stay in a foster home where he was allegedly beaten severely.

Records show the Cincinnati child was allowed to stay with a woman who twice before was accused of abuse and neglect, although those charges were never proved. But the county child welfare agency didn’t know the woman was living with a convicted robber and abuser who now is charged with beating the toddler.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported the child remained hospitalized Wednesday. The 34-year-old man accused of beating him is charged with felonious assault.

Hamilton County Job and Family Services spokesman Brian Gregg said the agency is cooperating with police and doing its own investigation.
