Idaho child reunited with father in Mexico

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A young girl whose custody case was ultimately decided by the Idaho Supreme Court has been handed over to her father and his family in Mexico.

Officials from The Consulate of Mexico in Boise say the girl was repatriated Monday, marking the first-ever meeting between Jesus Ramirez and his daughter, Maria.

In April, the Supreme Court ruled that a lower court erred in severing the man’s parental rights, and instead granted custody to Ramirez.

Ramirez married an Idaho woman in 2007, after illegally entering the country years before. After the couple returned to Mexico in 2008 under a court order, the wife became pregnant then moved back to Idaho.

The father tried to return to Idaho but was caught in March 2009.
