Pa. man pleads no contest in wife’s slaying

BEDFORD, Pa.

A western Pennsylvania man has pleaded no contest to first-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife almost four years ago.

John Gerholt Sr., 41, was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole after entering the plea Tuesday in Bedford County Court.

Jury selection had begun Monday in the case. Prosecutors were seeking the death penalty.
