McDONALD

The McDonald Board of Education on Monday approved the addition of 12 working days to be paid at a per diem rate for the high school and elementary school principals.

The contracts will be extended for Gary Carkido, high school principal, who usually works 223 days a year, and David Vecchione, Roosevelt Elementary School principal, who usually works 203 days. Carkido will be paid $321.74 per extra day, and Vecchione will be paid $320.19 per extra day.

Carkido’s annual salary without the added days is $71,750, and Vecchione’s is $64,999.

The addition of the extra work days is needed, schools Treasurer BiIl Johnson said, in part because of new state requirements that will require a lot more evaluation of teachers, along with additional work needed to keep students up on new state testing.

Superintendent Ken Halbert also wanted the principals’ days extended.

The Class of 2012 approved a resolution to contribute its $4,166 balance to be used for a $500 donation to the multimedia room for new cameras or new computers and the remainder to be used to replace the sign in front of the high school.

The board moved to enter into a contract again with the Weathersfield Board of Education for psychology services for the 2012-13 school year. Psychologist Luke Bottorff will work 40 percent of his time in McDonald at an estimated cost of $28,414. Weathersfield pays him a $55,080 salary and also pays his benefits, which total $15,955.31.
