OSU medical center reaches settlement over surgery
CLEVELAND (AP) — A court says Ohio State University’s medical center will pay a Cleveland man’s family more than $1.2 million to settle a claim over a surgery that left the man in a vegetative state.
The Court of Claims of Ohio announced today that last week’s settlement means OSU’s medical center will pay Theodis Jackson’s family a lump sum of $865,000, and the rest into a trust for payments.
Jackson’s mother serves as his guardian and filed a complaint in April 2010 on behalf of her son. It accused the center of medical malpractice and hospital negligence.
Jackson underwent surgery at the center to treat testicular cancer. The complaint says he suffered permanent brain damage, and is now at a nursing home.
