Ohio man sentenced to life for killing girlfriend

URBANA, Ohio (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to aggravated murder in the stabbing, suffocation and dismemberment of his girlfriend in western Ohio has been sentenced to life in prison and must serve at least 42 years before parole eligibility.

Matthew Puccio, 26, was sentenced Monday in Urbana. He pleaded guilty last month to killing 21-year-old Jessica Rae Sacco and to other charges including felonious assault, gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Her remains were found in the bathtub of their Urbana apartment in late March.

Authorities said Puccio stabbed Sacco in the abdomen in an argument and later suffocated her with a plastic bag.

Puccio originally pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. He changed his plea to guilty after he was found competent to stand trial.
