Ohio schools superintendent hunt to be led by national firm
COLUMBUS (AP) — The Ohio school board won’t name an interim or permanent state superintendent until it conducts a thorough national search.
The 19-member Ohio Board of Education voted unanimously today to have its executive committee interview search firms and bring a recommendation to the board. It would be the state’s second such search in 16 months.
The vote followed a two-hour executive session on replacement of former Superintendent Stan Heffner.
Heffner resigned Aug. 4 after a state watchdog’s investigation that found potential wrongful acts related to his conduct with a Texas-based private testing firm. He had been leading the department since May 2011, when Deborah Delisle left the job under pressure from Gov. John Kasich.
Monday’s vote left Acting Superintendent Michael Sawyers in charge of the Ohio Department of Education.
