Kindergarten registration/ screening for all city school district students will be from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28. It will be the last registration/screening before the start of the 2012-13 school year.

Kindergarten registration packets are available at Jackson Elementary School, 522 Emma St., or may be downloaded at www.nilescityschools.org.

Required documentation when registering a child includes the child’s birth certificate and Social Security card, immunization record, parent/guardian photo identification, proof of residence and custody papers, if applicable.

Niles orientation

Niles McKinley High School will host an orientation for all incoming freshmen and new students and their parents or guardians at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school auditorium.

The meeting will last about 45 minutes.

Any incoming ninth grade/ new students that need to speak with a counselor regarding their schedule may begin calling the guidance office at 330-652-9968, ext. 106, to arrange an appointment.

Malone orientation

Canton

New students at Malone University will experience orientation week Monday through Friday. They will learn their way around the campus, meet professors and become acquainted with the local community and a wide variety of organizations. The two-day event called “Into the Streets” will be from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The program connects incoming students with service opportunities from which to choose throughout their college experience, while providing volunteer hours to local agencies and organizations.

“Into the Streets” is an award-winning program developed in 1995 by Marcia Everett, Ph.D., director of The College Experience program at Malone University, in an effort to incorporate service as part of the college learning experience while instilling in students a sense of the larger community beyond the campus.
