Ohio school shooting suspect wants his trial moved

CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — The defense for an Ohio teenager charged with killing three students and wounding three others in a high school cafeteria wants his trial moved to another city.

Attorneys for 17-year-old T.J. Lane says Chardon is too grief-stricken to allow him a fair trial in Geauga County east of Cleveland.

The defense says the “shock and grief” of the shootings has pervaded the community and beyond with memorials on every major roadway in Chardon.

Prosecutor David Joyce says the defense move is premature since jury selection hasn’t started.

Lane has been charged with aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault in the Feb. 27 shootings at Chardon High School. He could face life in prison if convicted.
