Wandering goats mystify police in NY suburb

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.

It was strange enough to get one call about a stray goat in a New York suburb. When a second goat was reported 10 hours later, the mystery deepened.

White Plains police say both goats were spotted in a residential neighborhood near a busy boulevard.

A motorist called in the first one, and an animal-control officer corralled it.

The second call came Monday night, and an officer coaxed that goat into a police cruiser.

Police say both goats were checked by veterinarians and taken to the White Plains Animal Hospital.

No animals or officers were harmed.

As of Tuesday, police still didn’t know where the goats came from.

Detective Lt. Eric Fisher said no goats had been reported missing.

Man fires insect repellent in Oregon robbery

ROSEBURG, Ore.

Police in Roseburg, Ore., say a man who robbed a restaurant was armed with a can of bug spray.

Sgt. Aaron Dunbar says the robber entered Elmer’s Restaurant late Monday wearing a green hooded sweat shirt, gloves and a beanie atop a shoulder-length blond wig that was pulled partly across his face.

A bartender tried to bat away the can of insect repellent when the robber brandished it, but the employee got a direct spray to the face.

The Roseburg News-Review reports the robber grabbed money from a cash box behind the bar and fled.

The amount of the take wasn’t disclosed.

Double-parking in Pa. city gets doubly expensive

ALLENTOWN, Pa.

Double-parking can now be doubly expensive in one eastern Pennsylvania city.

The city council in Allentown on Wednesday approved additional fines for drivers who double-park when there is a vacant space nearby.

The Express-Times reports double- parking already is illegal in Allentown.

But now, drivers who block the road while ignoring “adjacent” open spots face an extra $100 fee on top of the original $100 double-parking fine.

Councilman Peter Schweyer sponsored the bill, which was approved 7-0.

Schweyer says there’s no justification for motorists double-parking if a spot is available. He says, “The only excuse is that they’re lazy. It’s as simple as that.”
