Parents had the opportunity to learn about unique and fun ways to incorporate reading into their childrens’ lives during Family Story Time at the Boardman library July 25.

“It’s an all-ages program for families that have babies and toddlers. It’s great for children and parents. It also teaches parents how to enjoy themselves and make stories interactive. I think the parents are appreciative. The story time attendance is getting better and parents see that it’s skills that they can use,” said Boardman Librarian Katherine Matasic.

The event created an environment for learning where children could utilize all their senses. Matasic read to children and encouraged them to make sounds of animals they recognize. She also kept children engaged by asking them questions about characters as well to practice their critical thinking skills. Some parents were just as enthusiastic about the event as their children and were happy the library provided an outlet for creativity.

“They get sense of creativity and socialization with other children. It’s a creative outlet that enables their self-expression and all parents should bring their children to the library. It’s a really good activity for parents and for kids to participate and it enables life-long learning and bonding with children,” said Canfield resident Stephanie Lambert.
