Laykos celebrate 50th anniversary and renew vows


Ron Sr. and Nancy Layko of Austintown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and renewed their vows with friends and family May 5 at St. Christine Church and Social Hall in Youngstown. Mr. Layko and the former Nancy Dota were married on that date in 1962 in St. Patrick Church in Youngstown. The couple’s children, Ron Jr. (Nancy) Layko and Marijane (Rob) Bowman, hosted the event. The couple also have four grandchildren.

The celebration included mass by Bishop George Murry. Mass was concelebrated by the Monsignor David Rhodes and the Revs. Chris Cicero, William Loveless, Mike Seifert and Edward Brienz. Deacons Jim Brown, Dave Beil, Robert Cuttica and Bob Mintus assisted with the Mass. Family friend Gina Fire sang a special communion meditation song.

Mrs. Layko is retired from her position as a clerk and manager at Alba House in Canfield, where she worked for 13 years.

Mr. Layko retired from Steel Valley Crane, where he worked as a field engineer for 10 years. Prior to that he was employed for 30 years as a design and field engineer for C.F. Simmers Crane Design & Service Co. in Canfield. He works as a part-time courier for Valley Care Lab Service in Youngstown. Mr. Layko served in the U.S. Army’s Signal Corps from Jan. 1957 until Dec. 1959. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus.

The couple have been active in the Youngstown Cursillo Movement for more than 30 years, and Mrs. Layko held positions on both regional and national levels. Mr. Layko was ordained as a permanent deacon 25 years ago and is a deacon at St. Christine’s, where the couple are members.
