The Green Team gave children a look into the future of their community when no one took the time to care for the Earth at the Austintown library July 30.

Peg Flynn, green team educator, kept children entertained as she read a tale of a world full of trash and unhealthy living due to the lack of people cleaning. The benefits of recycling and keeping the Earth as clean as possible are important lessons to learn at any age, but particularly valuable for young children, who can use those skills they ‘ve developed at an early age for the rest of their lives.

“If they start young they will continue to do it all their lives and it’s their future they’re working towards,” said Green Team Educator, Peg Flynn.

Some parents thought the program was useful in breaking any old habits that some children can develop over time.

“You see a lot of kids throw things on the ground and it becomes a habit. It’s good to nip it in the bud now,” said Jessica Good.

Participants also showed off their creative skills with arts and crafts. They made dream catchers out of recycled items, which aligned with the library summer reading theme “Dream Big”.

“We come to the library every summer, and we always do something that fits their theme,” Flynn said.
