Graduating seniors Alexandria DeFabio, of Boardman High School, Vincent DeChellis, of Poland High School, Annie Rose McGlone, of Canfield High School and Brandon Pluchinsky, of South Range High School all received scholarships from the Independent Insurance Agents of Mahoning County during its 42nd annual Junior Golf Classic at Mill Creek Golf Classic July 25.

Golfers of all ages were able to come together and share their love for the game during the Independent Insurance Agents of Mahoning County 42nd annual Junior Golf Classic. The event allowed children to hone their skills and also supported the athleticism of several senior participants with scholarships and awards.

“The two requirements are, they have to participate for two years in the program and played two years on their high school golf team,” said Education Director and Golf Chair Mary Ann Corano.

“Seventh-five kids ages 8 to 18 participate in this outing and go on to win plaques. It’s basically a tournament to sharpen their skills and at the end there are awards based on age groups for the boys and girls. It’s just good for the social aspects and for vendors and agents to get together. It perpetuates the love of golf for children and helps them along with scholarships. It’s real exciting for the kids. The best thing is they get to experience different golf courses in the Valley,” Corano said.
