The Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club raised more than $3,000 during its car show at Boardman Township Park Aug. 5. The proceeds were donated to help pay for medical expenses for Mario Novello, who has a rare chromosome condition and his family.

“We’re a non-profit organization. We do things for other people and the community. It’s our main focus. The turnout was great. It’s nice and it’s a worthwhile event. It literally wouldn’t be possible without everybody,” said Dennis White, chairman of the car show.

Hundreds of people were excited to see such a variety of cars from almost every decade lined up at the park. Some car enthusiasts said they simply come to enjoy quality time with their friends and family.

“I’ve always like cars. I come for the camaraderie. It’s a good thing for old guys,” said Bill Devine.

Others were just happy to come out and enjoy themselves while helping another family in need.

“It feels really good because I have a grandson who was premature. When it comes to babies, in my heart there is no limit,” said Anita Sklenchar.

The Boardman Jazz Ensemble played music and the event included a raffle and food.
